When swag tips over
It has been a little over a week since HCP happened and when we woke up to the Sunday Twitter raucous of the aftermath which has included ogling known Oomfs and ‘need to be known’ oomfs, as well as some seemingly disastrous happenings and ‘I wish I was there’ moments.
One of the biggest talking points was that of a very good looking girl who entered dripping of swag but ended up tipped over, face planted firmly on the grass. I wasn’t sure if she was passed out or a congregant of Rabboni Centre Ministries and this was a part of the grass eating praise and worship. It was sad. The tweets have been ferociously abundant, so we shall not go through those but I want to talk about the divide that has permeated as to whether it is right to joke about and meme her, question her morality and ‘where were her friends?’
My understanding about HCP and similar events is that they are not family and/or child friendly but for people who are grown and have some sense. At least one hopes sense exists. The girl who passed out whether she drank herself to a stupor or her drink was spiked is seemingly grown. We live in an age where spiking is a widely known danger, we know we shouldn’t accept open drinks from strangers or questionable friends. Spiking has been around since time immemorial so today we should be well aware of this danger and drinking too much. We live in a world with dangerous people; even sleeping in the car is not safe anymore. Surely we have heard of incidences of girls being sexually assaulted while sleeping in a car alone. This is not to lay blame on victims but we need to be aware of risks.
We also know to get stupidly drunk around people we know and trust, if there is doubt it is because there is no doubt, so don’t do it. As for the question ‘where were her friends?’ it implies they are to blame for her condition, for not helping and allowing the opportunity for the picture being taken and posted online. Again going back to the age we live in, with the amount of smartphones and connectivity, we should not be shocked when people rush to take pictures of something faster than maggots appear on a dead carcass and posting these on the online wild.
I am all for one having fun but think about who you are with, where you are and consequences. I am not placing blame on usisi because I am ignorant as to the circumstances. However she is a grown girl and should have taken care as to how much she drank or where she was getting her drinks.
Well twitter got really creative with it, they brought out their A-game photoshopping skills.
Then there's was the #HuntersDryChallenge inspired by the #IceBucketChallenge
And others were just being unnecessary
Usisi kodwa is saying it wasn’t her, giving her the benefit of the doubt, akusiyena. Whoever it is/was, my views still hold and they are out there to be disputed, debated, rubbished or just ignore. After all, who am I to talk? Kodwa ufundile.
